Founded in 1775, Breguet is one of the oldest watch-making companies still in existence. It is also one of the most accomplished, having developed several, vital inventions in horology history. Breguet watches dominated European courts and high society from the late eighteenth century through the early nineteenth century. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were especial supporters of Breguet products. Literary references to Breguet from this time period are rife, and include Victor Hugo, Pushkin, Stendhal and Alexandre Dumas. Breguet watches are both classic and distinctive, easily recognizable by their coin-edged cases and blue, pomme hands.
